What is a dietitian?

Dietitians are experts in food and nutrition. They provide guidance about how to appropriately manage diets and nutrition for people who may be affected by health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, cancer, heart disease, renal disease, gastro-intestinal diseases and food allergies. A dietitian can help people maintain their health and reduce their risk of developing chronic disease.

Our dietitians are also mobile and can come to you to provide one on one support, or work with residential aged care facilities for

  • Conduct a formal nutrition assessment
  • Provide nutrition information
  • Develop and deliver Medical Nutrition Therapy
  • Counsel and educate carers on dietary recommendations
  • Provide tips on food safety at home
  • Provide tips for meeting nutritional needs on a budget
  • Liaise with other health and community services
